Biography BamesreiterSchwartzOrchestra

BamesreiterSchwartzOrchestra
Orchestral jazz made in Germany, by the young BamesreiterSchwartzOrchestra. The eight compositions by bandleaders Richard Schwartz and Lukas Bamesreiter on their debut album „Metamorphosis“ range from Cool to Postmodern Jazz, influences being Blues, Chanson and Hip-Hop. The extended 24-piece big band features inter alia a 4- part vocal section.

Can you resist? The entranced dance in the gardens, the heady ride on a Chanson, the shadow of your reflection? A never-ending ecstatic dream, a skull-breaking monologue, a tobacco-chewing Clint Eastwood? The picture-perfect, lethal hydra, the voice of the moon, romance’s brute force? This band paints stories in your ear that leave Hollywood green with envy. You don’t want to resist at all.

The BamesreiterSchwartzOrchestra knows mental cinema and unrestricted fantasy worlds inside out. For the founders Richard Schwartz and Lukas Bamesreiter the question of the orchestra’s musical limitations is clear: there are none. But they also know about the Jazz Orchestra heritage: The deep ties with its legendary ancestors Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

The eight compositions on their debut „Metamorphosis“, written by the two bandleaders, stretch from Cool to Postmodern Jazz and from Blues across Chanson on to Hip-Hop influences. The arrangements are, aside from the composers’ highest demands, fuelled by the musicians’ intense joy of performing as well as the huge range of colours of the ensemble itself. Apart from the extended big band lineup - an additional clarinet plus a french horn - it’s the orchestra’s vocal section that catches the ear most of all, consisting of four female singers ranging from mezzo-soprano to contra-alto.

The musicians of the BamesreiterSchwartzOrchestra consist of a young generation of professional jazz musicians from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They share a history of playing together in a diverse range of different ensembles and big bands across the international jazz scene.
