Info for Pink Silence
Rachael and Paul Swinton are the talented twins who make up Cloth, the Glasgow-based duo rapidly resonating their way into the indie hearts of many. 2025 is shaping up to be a monumental year for them, especially with the recent announcement of their third album Pink Silence, which is set for release on April 25th via Rock Action Records.
Produced by Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey, Yard Act), the album news comes after the band shared 2024 single 'Polaroid', their first new music since the release of their acclaimed and Scottish Album Of The Year Award nominated 2023 album for Rock Action, Secret Measure.
The pair’s feather-light approach and intrinsic quiet drama remain fundamentals of the Cloth sound on Pink Silence. A daring rhythmic streak combined with the patience and restraint to let the space in their music do the talking persists, however with producer Ali Chant at the helm – and with a cast of collaborators that includes Portishead’s Adrian Utley, Owen Pallett, and Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite - their exemplary guitar interplay is adorned with synth flourishes, undulating drone textures, and strings. Together, the group’s intentional subtlety is elevated to lofty new heights as songs unfold and bloom, becoming rich, complex and emotional. Pink Silence is the sound of Cloth realising the growing pop streak that they’ve long-threatened to bring to the fore, full of the kind of rewarding ruminations that continue to make them such an engaging prospect. New single 'Golden' grips, hypnotises and thrums, vividly capturing how it feels to experience a relationship falling apart.
On Pink Silence, a more instinctual approach to writing was adopted. They wanted to let the songs be what they were going to be, rather than pulled into a certain shape. The results feel absorbing and natural, fitting rather well with what the band wanted to draw from the title Pink Silence. They say: “This idea of pink silence describes the early morning or later in the evening, when you get this sort of strange ethereal light in the sky. It can mean one of two things; something which feels blissfully serene or something charged with a real sense of foreboding. We loved the idea that something so natural, beautiful and all-pervasive could have such an intense duality to it."

Gracing the stages of taste-making festivals Latitude and Connect, and being featured on the soundtrack for Hulu’s hit ‘Normal People’, Cloth are a Glasgow two-piece comprising twins Rachael and Paul Swinton.
With their debut album shortlisted for the 2020 SAY Award and enjoying committed support from Elbow’s Guy Garvey, BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and BBC Introducing (among many others), the band are set to release their hotly anticipated follow-up album, Secret Measure, in May 2023 via Mogwai’s Rock Action Records.
Produced by Ali Chant (Yard Act, Katy J Pearson), Secret Measure’s 10 meticulously crafted tracks represent a seismic step forward for the band both musically and artistically. As Rachael explains, “we wanted to craft something that sounded huge, leaning into more pop-y influences whilst retaining that sense of intimacy that colours a lot of our music.”
Both bigger in scope and more emotionally direct, Secret Measure “explores the idea of reassurance and learning to accept that, whatever life is throwing at you, things will most likely turn out okay” says Paul. “It’s a hopeful collection of songs exploring the journey from doubt and anxiety to a place where you can sit comfortably with the unknown and know that, whatever you’re feeling, it won’t feel like that forever.”
With a dark, enigmatic music video shot in the dead of night by Bristol’s Clump Collective (Divorce, Katy J Pearson), second single ‘Never Know’ is out now.
Secret Measure arrives 5th May, 2023 via Rock Action.
