He stayed in the French capital, got to know people like Daniel Humair at the National Conservatory and discovered a new spectrum of musical opportunities including contemporary classical music, chanson and jazz.

Tomas Gubitsch
The story, the geography and the music made of Tomás Gubitsch the guitar hero of a nuevo tango which takes its roots in Argentina and has been developed in France, its land of welcome for more than thirty years.

Born in 1957 in Buenos Aires, Tomás Gubitsch is known very early for his guitarist’s talent in “Invisible”, the most famous Argentine rock band. Stemming from a generation fed by the music of Beatles, Hendrix or Zappa, his tango adopts a “disrespectful” attitude towards his elder (Troilo, Pugliese, Salgán or Piazzolla) and claims proudly the rock as an inspiration, ” the music which symbolized the rejection of the dictatorships ” in Argentina.

Upon his arrival in France, the 19-year-old kid has no evil to become integrated into the French and European scenes, especially as he navigates easily between the styles. In the beam(shelf) jazz, Tomás Gubitsch collaborates with Stéphane Grapelli, Michel Portal or Steve Lacy.

His South American origins also drive him to investigate the way of the World Music with Nana Vasconcelos, Mino Cinelu or David Dorantes.

Finally his taste of the experiment allows him to flirt with the contemporary music of Luc Ferrari or Jean Schwarz.

These few fifty recordings with prestigious artists do not have to lead to forget his own career which begins in 1980 with ” Resistiendo has Tormenta “. Composer and arranger, Tomás Gubitsch works with philharmonic orchestras, from Rouen to Liège, by way of Japan and Sweden. In 1997, he realizes a very personal work with ” Ceaselessly (suite) “, recorded with the orchestra of Basse-Normandie and what he qualifies as ” improbable opera-ballet “.

“Songs of innocence” in 1999 is applauded too. Having dedicated himself to the composition for a few years, he returns on the center stage in 2007 with the album ” 5 “.

In 40 years of career, he played on all the continents, thus not amazing that his last solo album, “Itaca” and the show which he pulled off, is inspired by the epic of Odyssey. Tireless traveler in sounds, Tomás Gubitsch is an inimitable artist, ready to offer a vibrating tango, a free music!
