Info for Odyssey

The music of the London-born saxophonist, composer and bandleader not only reflects her roots in jazz, but also other influences from dub, R&B, classical music and more shimmer through. The album breathes freedom and boundlessness, especially in the instrumental tracks. The spirit of fusion jazz can be found here time and again, as well as orchestral elements that lend the whole thing additional grandeur. Vocal guests include Georgia Anne Muldrow, Zara Macfarlane and Ritchie. Nubya's saxophone doesn't always set the scene, but the line-ups vary considerably. The outstanding drumming of Sam Jones and the equally virtuoso bass of Daniel Casimir as well as the piano of Joe Armon are striking.

Nubya Garcia

Nubya Garcia
Born and raised in North London, Nubya Garcia began playing saxophone at the age of 10. She studied under pianist Nikki Yeoh at Camden Music, before joining Gary Crosby’s Tomorrow’s Warriors in her late teens, and completing her training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music. In 2018, Garcia won the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year Award and the Sky Arts Breakthrough Act of the Year Award. A year later, she received Jazz FM UK Jazz Act of the Year Award. An incredible live performer, she’s toured extensively on her own, as well as with the contemporary septet, Nerija, playing venues and festivals around the world. When she’s not on the road, Garcia can be heard on NTS Radio, where she hosts one of the station’s top radio shows.
