Info for verlierer

"verlierer" is not only the title song and namesake of this EP, but the beginning of LUNA's musical and private journey - and it's quite a contradictory title, considering that LUNA has gained so much since the release of "verlierer". In 2020, it all started with a 50-second piano version of "verlierer", since then the successes have piled up and LUNA has been able to more than live up to her TikTok hype and establish herself as an artist. Not only did "verlierer" reach gold status, but it was followed by a shower of awards (for example, the 1Live crown as "Best Newcomer Act" or "Durchstarter*in" of the year at the New Music Awards), a festival tour as LEA's support act and 140 million audio streams.

But of course it's not just about the big successes. Because even if these are considerable for the 19-year-old, a purely jarring presentation would not do justice to LUNA, whose music is characterised by self-reflection and humbleness. "verlierer" is therefore like a coming-of-age film in EP form. It's about leaving, about arriving, about love, about separation, about self-confidence and doubt. LUNA reflects closely on the past two years since her life was turned upside down in the provinces and observes herself and her surroundings with a hair's breadth.

LUNA takes her listeners on a journey from her home on the Danube to Berlin. It's about big, life-changing decisions, not just a move. She addresses her Hannah Montana life, alienation and false expectations. Despite all her successes, she couldn't enjoy them herself in the frenzied times. For example, she landed at number three in the charts at Christmas and again brushed off her excited management on the phone because she still had to quickly finish a paper for school. That's why "loser" is also a pause. She doesn't really want the pop star life that LUNA would be accused of, she sometimes walks the red carpet in a jogging suit if she feels like it, and one way or another, she came to the capital before anyone else to make music. So the "verlierer" EP is also a result of countless experiments, courageous trial and error, but also of constantly finding one's way back to the core team. Thanks to the collaboration with Björn Steiner, Tom Hengelbrock and a feature by Chapo102, whom she incidentally got to know better while walking his dog, the EP is complete. The result is flawless pop that dares to take the listener into dark synth worlds again and again, and a sound that juggles heaviness and lightness in turn.

In terms of content, LUNA shows her usual attitude - in her music, but also beyond it. She performed for Fridays for Future, for example, and this EP has also been released in the vinyl edition as a sustainable re-vinyl. Otherwise, the EP sounds like voice messages to the best of friends. From mental health to love, everything LUNA has dealt with over the last few years is included. "Tired" is about the question "How are you?" and the honest or dishonest answer to it. On "hausflur", "irgendwas" and "immer nur du", LUNA takes the listeners through various phases of love, toxic relationships and break-ups and turns the tables at the end with "arschloch". The big statement song is "blau", at the same time LUNA's coming-out song, which drew a huge echo: from listeners who dared to come out to their parents after concerts, to countless daily messages that you finally feel understood. "Blue" is not just a song for LUNA herself or for the LGBTIQA+ community, but, as she says, for everyone who struggles in any way with not being accepted, because representation matters, always: Representation matters, always.

"loser" is a mix of already known hits and brand new songs that fit perfectly like missing puzzle pieces and make LUNA's story even more tangible. It is an EP that opens up thematic worlds that everyone knows, but which are difficult to put into words. Not just for Gen Z, not just for the TikTok generation, not just for a certain bubble. "loser" sounds like: "Ah, I couldn't have put it better."

LUNA

LUNA

The Future is Female.
