Info for Micro Organisms

Deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, they are open to influences of various colours. And you can hear that.

Renato Chicco, one of the most sought-after soloists of our time, has played with jazz legends such as Lionel Hampton and Freddie Hubbard. Johannes Enders, known for his own projects and collaborations with musicians such as Micha and Markus Acher (The Notwist, Tied & Tickled Trio), Nils Petter Molvaer, Günther Baby Sommer, Karl Ratzer and Billy Hart, is one of the most experimental musicians in Europe. The trio is completed by drummer Jorge Rossy, who has made international waves through his long affiliation with the Brad Mehldau Trio.

A new work joins the impressive discography of one of Germany's most distinguished jazz musicians. Together with Italian organist Renato Chicco and first-call drummer Jorge Rossy, Johannes Enders presents his trio MicroOrganisms, whose latest live LP was recorded in Graz in 2022 and released on his own label 'Ammerton'. Powerful, dynamic, lyrical and upbeat, the best jazz through and through in organ trio format!

Johannes Enders is probably one of the most productive and experimental tenor saxophonists of his generation, far beyond the borders of Germany. The 2-meter man from Weilheim, who studied in Munich, Graz and New York, is an active creative spirit whose immense artistic output is full of surprises. For this he has been awarded numerous prizes in recent years, including the Cultural Promotion Prize of the City of Munich, the SWR Jazz Prize, the New German Jazz Prize, the German Music Authors' Prize and the Echo Jazz.

Pianist and organist Renato Chicco, born in 1962, studied at the University of Music in Graz, Austria, and at Berklee College of Music in Boston. While living in New York City (1990 -1998) he was a member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra (1991-1992) and pianist and musical director with Jon Hendricks & Company (1991-1997). Being active on the New York scene during that time, aside from playing in clubs like the Blue Note, Birdland and the Village Gate, he took part of radio and TV shows (with Lionel Hampton and Jon Hendricks), performed in festivals and clubs all over the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. Renato also performed with Lou Donaldson, Woody Shaw, Freddie Hubbard, Clark Terry, Benny Golson, Red Holloway, Al Grey, Joe Williams, Wynton Marsalis, Gary Burton, Milt Hinton, Reggie Workman, Jerry Bergonzi, Steve Grossman, Al Foster and many others.

Jorge Rossy is internationally recognised as one of the most influential drummers of his generation. His sideman work includes over 180 recordings with renowned jazz musicians such as Brad Mehldau, Ethan Iverson, Kevin Hays, Albert Sanz, Mark Turner, Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jakob Bro, Enrico Pieranunzi and Steve Swallow, among many others. Jorge has also toured with some jazz greats including Charlie Haden, Wayne Shorter, Lee Konitz, Carla Bley, and Joe Lovano.

Johannes Enders, Renato Chicco, Jorge Rossy
This organ trio formed in 2019 around the Italian-Slovenian organist Renato Chicco, the German tenor saxophonist Johannes Enders and the Spanish drummer Jorge Rossy set out in search of their own sound aesthetic. All three protagonists are deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, but are wide open to influences of the most diverse colours. Renato Chicco, who studied at Berklee College in Boston and New York, is one of the most sought-after soloists and most experienced accompanists in his field. He has played with jazz legends such as Lionel Hampton, Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw, to name but a few. Thanks to his own projects Enders Room/Enders Dome and collaborations with musicians as diverse as Micha and Markus Acher (The Notwist, Tied & Tickled Trio), Nils Petter Molvaer, Karl Ratzer and Billy Hart, Johannes Enders can be counted among the most experimental musicians on the European scene. The trio is completed by the Spanish master drummer Jorge Rossy, who has caused an international furore through his long-standing membership of the Brad Mehldau Trio.
