Info zu Vagn Holmboe: Solo and Chamber Works for Guitar
When the Danish composer Vagn Holmboe (1909-96) started to write guitar music, he had already been composing for half a century. Captivated by this ancient instrument, Holmboe wrote two beautiful sonatas and a number of solo pieces as well as duets for guitar and other instruments, combining his love of simple, transparent structures and organic musical development with the folklore of foreign cultures and his own Nordic roots.
“If you are searching - in terms of music and its presentation - for exemplary craftsmanship, subtlety of nuance and a profoundly satisfying experience, you need hear no further.” (Gramophone)
“the composer is not at his most compelling when writing for guitar, the idioms usually sounding slightly contrived in Scandinavian (and for that matter eastern European) hands, yet Jesper Siveboek's recital, with friends, is still a very pleasant way to spend a reflective hour or so.” (MusicWeb International)
“A composer of genuine vision…whose standards of craftsmanship were simply second to none.” (Classics Today)
