Philip Cannon’s Concertino for Piano and Strings (1951) dates from his formative years. It was written for the Petersfield Festival, where it was premiered on 27 January 1951 by soloist Joseph Cooper, with the Petersfield Orchestra conducted by Kathleen Merritt. This lively, neo-classical piece has achieved over a thousand performances internationally. Though John Addison’s Concertino for Piano and Orchestra is, for the most part, couched in a light-hearted language, it is the product of a serious, and unfailingly inventive, approach to keyboard and orchestral writing. Speaking of the work to Leslie Ayre of the London Evening News, the composer remarked that, ""it is a real concerto in the full sense of the word… I would not be ashamed to show the work to any first-class pianist."" Francis Chagrin maintained an intensely practical and unpretentious attitude towards his own craft, observing that, ""My music is not for first performances – it is just to be played."" His Piano Concerto was first performed by soloist Franz Osborn, with the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the composer, at an SPNM Experimental Rehearsal held at the Royal College of Music on 4 February 1944. Conversation Piece by John Addison was written in 1958 to a commission from the BBC Concert Orchestra for that year’s British Light Music Festival. John Addison felt that, by the late-1950s, too great a divide had opened up between serious and light music: “Concertgoers think contemporary music is so alarmingly serious that when confronted with a mildly witty turn of phrase, they assume something has gone wrong. I remember the astonished sigh of relief when, in the course of introducing one of my chamber works, I told the audience I would not mind if they smiled.” In Conversation Piece, Addison exploits to the full his talent to amuse and divert.

tritt weltweit als Solist und Kammermusiker auf. Seine letzten Konzertreisen führten ihn nach Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Europa und zweimal zum Banff Centre in Kanada. Er hat in allen wichtigen Konzerthallen Groβbritanniens gespielt, inklusive Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hal, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall und St David’s Hall in Cardiff sowie Bridgewater Hall und Stoller Hall in Manchester.

Simons Interesse in selten gespielten Werken resultierte in Einladungen, Konzerte von Françaix und Tippett aufzuführen. Er spielte auch die seit 1946 erste Aufführung von Medtners 3. Klavierkonzert in Groβbritannien, welches er in 2018 wieder vorführen wird. Seine schnell wachsende Diskographie beinhaltet Solowerke von Sterndale Bennett, Parry, Sacheverell Coke und zwei Bände von Delius, eingespielt mit seinem Parnassius Duo Partner, Hiroaki Takenouchi, für SOMM. In 2017 wird Simons Debütalbum unter Hyperions Romantischer Klavierkonzertreihe herausgebracht werden: die erste Aufnahme von Roger Sacheverell Cokes Konzerten mit dem BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra und Martyn Brabbins. Das Album erreichte Platz 3 in den Klassik-Charts, war in den Top 10 der Classic FM Charts und erhielt durchweg enthusiastische Kritiken in der Presse.

Simon war Gast renommierter Festivals wie z.B. Highgate, Husum, Whittington und dem Cervo Chamber Music Festival. Er ist oft im BBC Radio und Fernsehen zu hören und zu sehen. Als Kammermusiker hat Simon mit Ning Feng, Jack Liebeck, Giovanni Guzzo, Tim Hugh, Thomas Gould, Raphael Wallfisch und den Schauspielern Timothy und Samuel West, sowie Prunella Scales zusammengearbeitet. Sein breites Repertoire umfasst die kompletten Beethoven- und Brahms-Zyklen sowie eine Residenz am St John’s Smith Square, wo Simon drei Konzerte spielte, die dem Klavierquartett gewidmet waren. Auffűhrungen von zeitgenössischer Musik beinhalteten Werke von Joseph Phibbs, Julian Anderson und Kenneth Hesketh, und Simon wurde vom Royal College of Music eingeladen, Boulez ‘Dérive II’ im Rahmen der ‘Variable Geometry’ Reihe aufzuführen. Simon hat auch einen Vertrag mit Lyrita Recordings unterzeichnet. Mit diesem Label wird er 2018 drei Aufnahmen machen zusammen mit Raphael und Simon Walfisch, Hiro Takenouchi und anderen.

Simon legt groβen Wert aufs Unterrichten und wird in dieser Saison Meisterkurse geben, einen Kurs für Benslow Music leiten und seine Arbeit als Professor für Klavier an der Ingenium Academy (Winchester) fortsetzen. Simon ist auβerdem Musikdirektor an der Conway Hall, wo er die älteste Kammermusikreihe Europas organisiert. Simon ist außerdem Doktorand am Royal Northern College of Music, wo er daran arbeitet die Werke Roger Sacheverell Cokes öffentlich zugänglich zu machen.
