Info for Jinsei
Jinsei is more than just a collection of tracks; it’s a musical narrative that celebrates the resilience of life, the joy of music, and the deep bonds of friendship formed through these creative journeys. The album features an expanded lineup featuring Yuki Hirate on trumpet and flugelhorn, adding another colour to the group’s sound.
Despite being recorded just before the global pandemic, Jinsei captures a sense of hope and positivity, making it a powerful statement in challenging times. The album reflects the shared experiences of the musicians, their connection to the art form, and Joris Posthumus’s continued evolution as a composer and bandleader.
Joris Posthumus, alto and soprano saxophone
Yuki Hirate, trumpet and flugelhorn
Yuichiro Tokuda, alto and sopranino saxophone

Joris Posthumus Group
Joris joined the band Stat of Monc for a tour through China. On this tour he met Yuichiro Tokuda, a Japenese saxophonist who was also touring with his band in China. After this tour Joris and Yuichiro kept in touch and in 2014 Joris was invited for a tour in Japan and Korea, to join Yuichiro and his band.
On this tour Joris had the opportunity to play with many different musicians and see a lot of the beautiful jazz venues in Japan.
Back in the Netherlands he started composing new songs, inspired by his Japanese trip and musical encounters there.
April 2015 Joris invited Yuichiro Tokuda to join him for a small club tour in Holland and Belgium. This was a good way to test out some of the new tunes.
The Plan After talking to Challenge Records International, the record company that released my cd 'The Abyss' the plan arose to go back to Japan in September 2015 to record a album.
Prior to the recordings the group did four concerts in Tokyo as preparation for the two recording days in the studio. In Japan Joris recorded a new album with sound engineer Neeraj Khajanchi @NK SOUND TOKYO. Mixing was done @studio Wedgeview by Udo Pannekeet and Pascal Vermeer. Mastering by Steve Fallone @Sterlingsound New York. Release by Challenge Records is planned for september 2016. You can read more about the trip to Japan on my journal page.
