Info for Al Cante

(Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1974), completed his studies in classical double bass at the Vienna High School in 1999. After this stage, he moved to Madrid where he began his career as a performer, composer and producer.

The diversity of musical styles he is interested in has led him to collaborate with artists and projects of various genres such as Jorge Pardo, Gerardo Núñez, bandArt, Hippocampus, Chano Domínguez, Niño Josele, Rocío Molina, Enrike Solinís, Rosario “Tremendita”, and a long list of flamenco, jazz, classical and baroque projects. In parallel, this versatility has encouraged him to compose music for films and advertising campaigns since 2006.

He has released 6 albums to his name to date: Doméstica (BOST, 2005), El Caminero (BOST, 2011), O.F.N.I. (BOST, 2014), Salto al vacío (BOST, 2016), Bost (BOST, 2020), and Al Toque, (2021, see below). In quintet format, the double bass player develops a repertoire of his compositions where he expresses his musical vision based on two closely linked pillars: jazz and flamenco.

In 2016, he led to stage the project Double Bach with the choreographer Antonio Ruz, in which he plays 2 cello suites from J. S. Bach in pizzicato. He has also collaborated with Antonio Ruz as a symphonic composer in the Ballet Nacional de España production of Electra, and for In Paradisium of Compañía Nacional de Danza.

He continues with his intense musical activity through his project, as well as the shows with ‘Enrike Solinís & Euskal Barrokensemble’, Abe Rabade Trío, Fellini Quartet, Bolita Trío, Miryam Latrece, Ana Morales…

In June 2021, Pablo released his sixth album, Al Toque, the first in trio format (with Moisés P. Sánchez on piano and Paquito González on percussions), in which he covers 9 of the great works written for the flamenco guitar.

David Carpio
born and raised in Jerez de la Frontera, belongs to a prestigious family of flamenco singers and discovered his passion for cante flamenco at a young age. At the age of 15 he began performing in professional companies and conquering the stage.

Throughout his career he has worked with renowned dancers such as Andrés Peña, Pilar Ogalla, Mercedes Ruiz, Carmen Cortés and Concha Vargas, and accompanied great personalities of cante flamenco, including Juan Moneo "El Torta", La Macanita, Juana la del Pipa and Luis El Zambo. Carpio has been present in the most important flamenco tablaos in Spain, including the Peña de la Bulería, the Peña de Tío José de Paula and the Peña del Garbanzo. His voice has taken him to major stages and festivals such as the Festival de Jerez, the Festival de la Unión and the Festival de la Puebla de Cazalla, where he showed off his outstanding voice and stage presence.

In 2008, Carpio released his first album, which earned him several awards, including the award for best album at the Festival de Cante de las Minas. In 2013, he was awarded the award for best singer at the Festival de Jerez. His collaborations with prestigious companies, such as Cristina Hoyos' Ballet de Andalucía and Gerardo Núñez's company, have taken him on tours around the world.

With his second album, "Mi Verdad", presented live at the Théâtre Adyar in Paris in 2014, Carpio showed an even more personal and mature side. In his performances, he combines the traditional art of Cante Flamenco, passed down through generations, with a deep connection to his craft. Regardless of fixed repertoires or the demands of choreographed performances, Carpio today places his own life story and artistic heritage at the center of his work.
