Info for Sur-Saxophonism: Contemporary Works for Saxophone Quartet

"This is the album of saxophonist Kenta Fukui, whose activities are borderless, including classical music, jazz, brass band music, and studio sessions. On this album, he invites young, up-and-coming players to perform contemporary saxophone works with great vitality.

When I first met Kenta Fukui, he was still a student at Tokyo University of the Arts. Several years have passed since then, and he has been much sought after as a recitalist and a studio musician. Interestingly enough, quite a few people believe that he is a jazz musician. No wonder. He transforms into a funky bopper and often amazes even jazz specialists as soon as he changes his mouthpiece into Meyer from Selmer. Although his “mother tongue” is none other than classical, he possesses amazing “multilingual” talent. It indicates that his strong identity given to him by his multilingual talent never makes him stop singing with his own voice wherever he goes. (Yoshihisa Hirano, composer)"

Kenta Fukui, soprano saxophone
Takuya Tanaka, alto saxophone
Makoto Hondo, tenor saxophone
Jun Shiozuka, baritone saxophone
