Tuva Semmingsen
trained at the Norwegian State Academy of Music (prof Ingrid Bjoner), and at the Royal Danish Opera Academy (prof Kirsten Buhl-Møller).
Tuva made her stage debut in 1999 at the Royal Danish Opera, as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, a role she also performed at Teatro Fenice in Venice 2000.
As a member of the soloist ensemble at the Royal Danish Opera she has sung roles as Sesto/Giulio Cesare, Rosina/il Barbiere di Siviglia, Angelina/la Cenerentola, Nerone/L’incoronazione di Poppea, Rosmira/Partenope, amongst others.
Outside Denmark, she as appeared with opera companies such as Opéra de Nancy (Barbiere di Siviglia & Orlando Furioso), Grand Opéra de Reims (Barbiere), Opéra de Lille (Giulio Cesare), Garsington (la Gazzetta), Glyndebourne Touring Opera (Cenerentola), the Norwegian Opera (Barbiere & Giulio Cesare), Royal Swedish Opera (Cenerentola), and Drottningholm Slotsteater (Ritorno d’Ulisse & Orlando Paladino).
Tuva’s love for early music has led to cooperation with Lars Ulrik Mortensen/Concerto Copenhagen, Emmanuelle Haïm/Le concert d’astrée, Alan Curtis/Il complesso barocco, and Wiliam Christie/Les arts florissants, leading her to concert podiums such as Theater an der Wien, Théatre de Champs-Elysées, and the Lincoln Center. Together with Bjarte Eike & Barokksolistene she has recorded the CD ”London Calling”, and the soundtrack for Lars von Trier’s movie ”Antichrist”.
In addition to classical music, Tuva enjoys singing jazz, and has recently recorded the CD ”Money” together with the Danish Big Band ”The Orchestra”. They appeared at Copenhagen Jazz Festival this summer, as a supporting act for Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Kurt Elling.
Recent performances include Ruggiero/Alcina at the Royal Danish Opera, Concepcion in Ravel’s ”l’Heure Espagnole” for Undergrunden (Copenhagen), and a performance of the cult classic ”Drumming” by Steve Reich at Copenhagen Jazzhouse, with the ensemble Ekkozone. Future engagements include Cherubino in a new production for Royal Danish Opera, a newly written opera ”Lysistrate” by Steingrimur Rohloff, and a tour of Denmark with a commissioned chamber musical, composed by the Danish pioneer Bent Fabricius-Bjerre.
