Marie-Josephe Jude
Born to a French father and a Sino-Vietnamese mother, Marie-Josèphe Jude began her musical studies at the Conservatory of Nice. A precocious artist, she entered the CNSMD of Lyon in harp and the CNSMD of Paris in piano at the age of 13. After obtaining her first prizes in piano and chamber music as well as the concert diploma in harp at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, she continued her studies in London, then decided to dedicate herself exclusively to the piano: she became a Laureate of the Clara Haskil International Competition in Vevey in 1989 and won the Victoires de la Musique in 1995. Her career as a soloist has since taken her to concert halls and festivals around the world, from Montpellier to Bath, from La Roque d’Anthéron to Kuhmo, from Bagatelle to Locarno, collaborating with the Orchestre de Paris, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Lyon, Les Siècles, the Tours Symphony Orchestra, the Chopin Academy Orchestra in Warsaw, the BBC Scottish Orchestra, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, and the MDR Orchestra in Leipzig. Marie-Josèphe Jude dedicates a significant part of her activity to teaching: after having been a professor at the CNSMD of Lyon for 4 years, she has been teaching at the CNSMD of Paris since 2016. In 2019, she was a member of the jury for the Marguerite Long Competition, which charged her throughout the 18/19 season with selecting candidates worldwide. In October 2017, she was appointed President and Artistic Director of the International Summer Academy of Nice.
Charles Heisser
Born in Paris in 1998, Charles Heisser is a pianist with a dual identity, classical and jazz. Introduced to the piano by his parents at an early age, he pursued a double. He was introduced to the piano by his parents at a very early age, and pursued a dual curriculum at the CRR in Paris. He studied both disciplines disciplines at the same time, earning his DEM (Diplôme d'Études Musicales) in each.
An unprecedented double for his instrument, Charles Heisser will be admitted in 2019 to the CNSMD de Paris in both classical piano and jazz, where he is currently deepening his his training. As a member of several ensembles, he was a prizewinner at the Jazz Vocal de Crest Vocal Jazz Competition, and a finalist in Jazz à la Défense. He has taken part in numerous festivals, offering recitals recitals in which he mixes styles, in the image of Chick Corea, the legendary musician with whom Charles was lucky enough to record a duet improvisation, on his latest album, ‘Plays’.
Jean-Frederic Neuburger
Born in Paris in 1986, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger received an intense and varied musical education in piano, composition and organ before joining the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris at the age of thirteen. On graduating from the CNSM with Five ‘Premier Prix’ he went on to study composition with Michael Jarrell and Pascal Dusapin in Geneva.
He has, since then established himself as one of the most gifted musicians of his generation, both as a composer and an interpreter known for the extreme variety of his repertoire.
Jean-Frédéric is regularly commissioned by festivals and musical institutions such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Evian Festival, Radio-France, Long-Thibaud International Competition, Folle Journée de Nantes and his works have already been performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Orchestre de Paris under Christoph von Dohnányi as well as by the Chorus and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Pascal Rophé. His chamber music works have been played by Henri Demarquette, François Salque, Nicolas Dautricourt, Lise Berthaud, Raphaël Sévère, Bertrand Chamayou in venues such as the Lucerne Festival, The Sage Gateshead, the Lincoln Center, and Musikverein Wien.
He performs with the world’s most prestigious orchestras (New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse) and works with such distinguished conductors as François-Xavier Roth, Paavo Jarvi, David Zinman, Jonathan Nott and Michael Tilson Thomas. He also worked closely with Pierre Boulez, particularly on the composer’s second piano sonata. In 2014, the Auditorium du Louvre dedicated a series of six concerts to him entitled ‘Jean-Frédéric Neuburger and Friends.’
Jean-Frédéric Neuburger is invited by the most prestigious international festivals (Verbier, Lucerne, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, La Roque d'Anthéron, Saratoga, La Jolla Music Society) and as a chamber musician performs with the leading musicians of his generation including Modigliani Quartet, Bertrand Chamayou, Renaud Capuçon, Tatjana Vassiljeva and Raphaël Sévère.
Dedicating a large part of his performing activities to contemporary music, Jean-Frédéric has premiered several important works including Echo-Daimonon, Philippe Manoury’s concerto for piano and electronics with the Orchestre de Paris under the direction of Ingo Metzmacher (2012) as well as works by Bruno Mantovani, Phillip Maintz and Yves Chauris.
His many recordings have received great acclaim from French and international critics: the 2008 "Live at Suntory Hall" CD (featuring the Liszt Sonata) received a "Choc" in Le Monde de la Musique and his recording of the piano concerti by Ferdinand Hérold received the "Choc" in Classica Magazine.
Jean-Frédéric Neuburger received the Lili and Nadia Boulanger prize from the Académie des Beaux Arts and the Hervé Dugardin prize from the Sacem in 2015.
Quatuor Ellipsos
Blazing, control and generosity are three terms that often come up about this group, today recognized one of the most prestigious saxophone quartets in the world. After more than twtenty years of existence, his career has led him to give more than 1,000 concerts on the most prestigious French stages - from the Eiffel Tower to the Château de Versailles, from the Salle Pleyel to the Arsenal in Metz, via La Folle Journée de Nantes, the Radio France Montpellier festival and many international stages in more than fifteen countries. Renowned for its versatility, the quartet turns both to the classical repertoire - with a marked predilection for the baroque repertoire - and to the music of our time with works by Escaich, Doss, Lynch, Geiss and Decruck. Very active on records, the ensemble has to date recorded seven award-winning albums, the latest of which, “Fusion”, an association with the organist and composer Thierry Escaich, was released in 2023 by NoMadMusic.
Formed in 2004 in Nantes, the quartet was taught by Paul Meyer and Eric Le Sage at the Paris Conservatory; he also worked with Maurice Bourgue in Avignon, Claire Desert in Paris, Christian Lauba in Bordeaux, and Thierry Escaich with whom a real and lasting bond was forged. Winning unanimously in 2007 the First Prize of the European Competition "Musiques d'Ensemble", organized by the FNAPEC - an "Ellipsos Prize" has since been created, rewarding the best wind ensemble in the competition -, he was since the most broadcasted saxophone quartet on France Musique, and it is also the first saxophone quartet to be awarded a Grammy (Victoire de la Musique Classique) as "Best Ensemble 2020". Collaborating with the National Orchestra of Pays de la Loire, the National Orchestra of Lyon, the Gewandhaus of Leipzig, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, and with many artists such as Marie-Josèphe Jude, Gordan Nikolic, Eric Le Sage, Franck Braley, Thomas Ospital but also Manu Dibango, Didier Lockwood or the singers Zaza Fournier and Yaël Naïm, since 2018 he has been Ambassador for the Fondation du Souffle (which is committed to the fight against respiratory diseases) and devotes important artistic events to this cause.
He also directs an eponymous collection at Billaudot scores publisher, devoted to works for saxophone in general. In 2024, the Ellipsos Quartet becomes the ambassador for the japanese company YANAGISAWA. Then the quartet plays on exceptionnal and absolutely unique instruments (WO37GP and WO30BSB series). The quartet keeps beeing supported by the american company D'Addario, the Fondation de France, the SPEDIDAM, the french Ministère de la Culture and the french institut. It is also officially helped by by Frederique Bizeul, the repairs shop in Nantes. Since 2017, the Centre National de la Musique supports the Ellipsos Quartet.
