Info for Roses of Neurosis

The Norwegian Sivert Høyem is perhaps not yet very well known here. His recently released EP "Roses of Neurosis" will certainly change that. The five impressive songs are mid-tempo with beautiful melodies that are cleverly arranged. And Sivert Høyem has perhaps the best male voice in all of Scandinavian pop music. The melancholic and sophisticated lyrics are another plus. They immediately cast a spell over the listener.

"Run Away" with its chord changes and vocal lines is somewhat reminiscent of the late Beatles. "Devotional" begins in a mood reminiscent of the mid-eighties incarnation of Bryan Ferry. And "Queen of my Heart" is definitely the poppiest track. There is a slight hint of the Pretenders here. One of the really great rock bands of the eighties.

Sivert's own band has been playing together for many years now, and a close bond has developed that allows for intuitive collaboration. Christer Knutsen sits at the piano, keyboards and picks up the guitar. Cato Salsa is also on guitar, Børge Fjordheim on drums and Øystein Frantzvåg plays bass. Guest star on the EP is Nils Petter Molvær on trumpet. He provides some truly magical moments with his playing. The trumpeter is also known as the Miles Davis of Norway.

Sivert Høyem
Between 1996 and 2008, as frontman of Norwegian indie rockers Madrugada, he was an important part of their band sound with his distinctive voice. Together they recorded five albums, four of which reached number one in the Norwegian charts; they also charted in Germany and found a large fan base.

Sivert Høyem released his first solo album in 2004, followed by a further five studio long-players - all of which also reached number one in Norway. After temporarily parting ways with Madrugada, he focussed on his solo career.

Madrugada have been active again since 2019, but Sivert Høyem continues to pursue his own path; his new album "On an Island" will be released in 2024.

This album contains no booklet.
