Info for Vivaldi: Concerti per violino IX "Le nuove vie"
Boris Begelman, the highly acclaimed leader of Concerto Italiano, frequently takes on the role of soloist in the many concerts that Rinaldo Alessandrini’s celebrated orchestra devotes to the music of Vivaldi and his contemporaries. High time then for Begelman to take centre stage in one of the Vivaldi Edition’s solo violin recordings. This ninth concerto volume sees the welcome return of Rinaldo Alessandrini’s ensemble, which already features in thirteen albums of the Vivaldi collection. In this purely instrumental repertoire they excel as much as they do in vocal music, deploying generously sweeping melodic lines, inspired dynamics, and a musical language already mastered to perfection yet always interpreted anew.

Born in 1983 in Moscow, Boris Begelman began studying the violin at the age of seven, then graduated in 2007 at the Moscow Conservatory and in 2013 he obtained the Master degree in baroque violin magna cum laude at Alessandro Scarlatti Conservatory in Palermo. Both as a Konzertmeister and as a soloist he has performed, among others, with ensembles such as Il Complesso Barocco, Accademia Bizantina, Il Pomo d’oro, Les Musiciens du Prince, Cappella Mediterranea, Cappella Gabetta and now is the Konzertmeister of Rinaldo Alessandrini’s Concerto Italiano.
As a soloist he collaborated with conductors like Giovanni Antonini, Enrico Onofri, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Ottavio Dantone. On several occasions Begelman conducted from the violin Accademia Bizantina, Il pomo d’oro, Cappella Gabetta, Accademia Montis Regalis and soloists like Vivica Genaux, Max Cencic, Francesca Aspromonte, Simone Kermes and others whilst in April 2018 he made his debut in Canada as a soloist and guest conductor of Arion Baroque Orchestra, enjoying great success:
“… A perfect, breathtaking, mesmerizing performance…” (SN Travels and Arts)
Founded by Boris in 2014, ensemble “Arsenale Sonoro” rapidly gained success among critics all over the world with its first CD album “Telemann violin sonatas” released by DHM (Sony Classics). For the same label, in November 2017, he released his second solo recording “Sei Solo”, a double CD that contains the Sonatas and Partitas by J.S. Bach. Gramophone magazine says:
“… Full, strong and vibrantly toned, technically superb and beautifully ornamented, these are fresh and immensely human-sounding…”
Among the albums Boris recorded in 2020; Domenico Scarlatti Violin Sonatas with his ensemble Arsenale Sonoro and Vivaldi Violin Concertos for Naïve’s Vivaldi Edition with Concerto Italiano and Rinaldo Alessandrini. Among his past engagements, it’s worth mentioning: soloist and conductor of Accademia Montis Regalis in its concert season opening; solo violin recital for Milano Arte Musica; soloist and conductor at Salle Gaveau and Prinzregententheater of Simone Kermes’ recitals; North American tour as Konzertmeister of Concerto Italiano; conductor of Max Emanuel Cencic at Opera de Lausanne with Il Pomo d’oro Orchestra.
