Info for Adoqué

A third-born -"Adoquaie" in Ga- is said to have an easier start on live than his older siblings. There is time to observe the world, explore things and come to be on individual terms.

Edward Maclean, the youngest of three, came to his own by discovering inspiration through his musician brothers. The man with Ghanaian roots grew up in West Germany and found his way to the vibrant music scene in Berlin. He played bass for artists such as platinum selling Peter Fox, Jazz trumpeter Nils Wülker, HipHop’s legendary Dendemann and lent his arrangement and songwriting prowess to many.

After years of underpinning the music of others he is now traveling a different road on his journey. At first sight Adoqué's quintet lineup may appear conventional, but surprises with an unexpected and exciting sound. The band, consisting of some of Berlin’s finest session players, weaves tender melodies, with roaming soundscapes and electronic passages to create compelling sonic tapestries. "My music is supposed to touch people and inspire them to transcend to places, they usually wouldn’t visit“

There are many different realms to discover on this debut release of Edward Maclean`s Adoqué. It's a daring effort, that may well become a new landmark in the German Jazz scene

Edward Maclean has been operating in the deep frequency trade for some time now. Electric bass, double bass, and the occasional fat bass synth are his constant companions. He was born in Ghana, went to school in the far west of Germany and graduated from the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin where he currently lives.

His sound is rich, warm and has a lot of bottom with a little bit of grime in the middle. Holding down the time while keeping songs breathing – always focused on the overall sound – he has established himself as a sought after musical director.

As his compositions gain more recognition -having written songs for Fetsum and Eska Mtungwazi – he is about to launch his own venture: Adoqué.

He is part of the Ron Spielman trio and is also the founding musical director of the renowned liveDEMO Band – the go-to backing band for numerous acts touring Europe. Latest in his rooster is Schmidt, a great Berlin based singer about to conquer Europe.

Additionally he lends his support as bass player or MD to a multitude of artists: Schmidt, Dendemann, Nils Wülker, and Blue Touch Paper – a British-German Jazz band – founded by Colin Towns.

Past engagements included: Peter Fox, Zascha Moktan, Jazzanova, Jessica Gall and many more, performing across Europe at well known venues from the Southport Weekender to the Leverkusen Jazz Fest, to Rock am Ring. Stay tuned for Adoqué, his much anticipated compositional debut.
