Oliver Strauch’s “TRIO DUENDE” transports us into the Iberian worlds between East and West and transforms intense moods and associations into up-to-date European jazz. As an inexhaustible inspirational source they not only take in equal measure the lonely voice of a muezzin in Cordoba, the extroverted “cante flamenco” of Seville or the archaic / Celtic sound of Asturias: Murat Öztürk, Jens Loh and Oliver Strauch also interpret the impressionistic masterpieces of an Albéniz and establish dialogues with Vicente Amigo and Dorantes, whose range of melodic wealth seems limitless…
Shaped by the Mediterranean tradition of European piano trios Oliver Strauch was fascinated by the inner strength and diversity of a music culture that has far more to offer than just well-known clichés …
The challenge was to create a music that not only features authentic connections, but also allows possibilities for individual and personal interpretation.
In examining his Turkish roots pianist Murat Öztürk integrates direct influences from oriental soundscapes into the language of the trio and bassist Jens Loh, with his percussive approach, points to the immediacy of melody and rhythm, the interplay of which is developed by bandleader and drummer Oliver Strauch.
The parallels exhibited by the music worlds thus become apparent: Haven’t Miles Davis, Chick Corea or Herb Alpert already expressed their affection for the modal structure of Spanish harmonies?
That a European Jazz trio now wants to mirror such affection in its own way makes us eager to embark on an exciting musical journey: España!

Oliver Strauch
"Oliver Strauch is a drummer of great groove, but also great melodic awareness. The perfect drummer for piano trio." Kenny Werner
'Oliver Strauch really surprised me with his strong, propulsive sound and conception. He's right on top of the groove and an extremely creative soloist of the first order. He's definitely an up and comer on the Europe Jazz scene' and one to watch out for on any jazz scene. Swingin'! Randy Brecker
"Oliver Strauch is a great drummer. Oliver impresses me very much by his accuracy and imagination in a big band context. And as well in a combo situation where his work is swinging, playing together with the band and colourfull. I had the honour and the pleasure to be featured in one of his records "Short Stories" . I keep a very nice memory from this session. Great player." Philip Catherine
"My man Oliver,It was fun!compliments to your band.I enjoyed everyone-Keep on Swingin! You sounded very hip!" Lee Konitz
I belive, Oliver is one of the finest Drummer of the European scene. The Dynamic Range and the way he's listen to the soloist , gave me some unforgetable evenings on stage. Very musical and elegant Drummer ( I don't mean his Look !) with lot's of JazzHistory in his playing. Always fun to play with !! Tony Lakatos.
