Info for Singing My Blues Away
Slap Back Joe is a blues band that played blues and rock covers in the years 2017-2020 at various pubs and festivals. When the pandemic hit, the band decided to play their own music. The debut album “System Breakdown” was released in June 2021 and received great reviews, including from Sweden Rock Magazine, which gave it a 7/10. Over the years, the band has also served as a backing band for the artist Ninna Westerholm Karlsson and that is what led to Ninna joining as lead singer in 2022. In autumn 2023, the work and recording of the sequel “Singing My Blues Away” began, which was released on March 15, 2023 via the Swedish indie label Killander Music Records. The band members
Raimo Rommedahl Songwriter, producer, guitar player, singer and the bandleader of Slap back Joe. Ninna Westerholm Karlsson Rock and blues singer with both grit and honey in her voice. Ulf Kandell The guitarist who has toured the country with many blues and rock bands. Håkan “Hågge” Olsson The bassist who started with hard rock but who in adulthood mostly played around with a lot of blues bands. Thomas Persson The drummer in the band but has played for many years in various contexts ranging from melodious hard rock to blues.
From the first listen, I knew right away that I wanted to work with this band. I just love their sound, lyrics, and the way they arrange songs. The biggest challenge for me when mastering the album was keeping the volume in the studio at a reasonable level. I simply couldn’t resist getting caught up in the album’s energetic vibe (which led to me constantly turning up the volume). Listening to the album is like going to a concert – fantastic! But with that said, I haven’t seen them live yet, but I can’t wait to do so!” (Filip Killander, KMR Studios)

With the new disc, the band hopes to reach out to a wider audience and open up new and exciting paths.
Raimo Rommedahl
Songwriter, producer and democratic bandleader who also plays guitar and sings. Raimo has a wide experience and has been in the business for years but wants to go back to where he once started; playing rocky blues. Their favourite song on their latest album is ‘End of the road’.
Ninna Westerholm Karlsson
Rock and blues singer with both grit and honey in her voice. ‘Live, learn and develop’ is her motto in life. Her favourite on the new album is ‘Singing my blues away’. When we asked Ninna why, we got the answer: ‘...because music has made me sing away many tragedies in life’.
Ulf Kandell
The guitarist who has toured the country with many blues and rock bands. He is the one in the band who is ‘closest’ to classic blues and makes sure they don't let go of their roots. His favourite song is ‘Waiting for the angels of light’ as it is a great mix between country, blues and classic hard rock.
Håkan ‘Hågge’ Olsson
The bassist who started with hard rock but who in adulthood has mostly played around with a lot of blues bands. Håkan likes all the songs on the album but if he had to choose, it would be ‘When the tables are turned’ because he likes the cool sound, and also because he helped write parts of it.
Thomas Persson
The drummer in the band but has played many years in different contexts ranging from melodic hard rock to blues. His role is to keep the tempo in the music and the nice vibe in the band. He does this by always having humour close at hand. His favourite song is ‘Baby’, for which he also wrote the riff and acted as the announcer at the end of the song.
