Info for Where The Light Gets In

‘Where The Light Gets In’ is the debut album from Ben Barnes. The title of the album reflects the hopefulness of the songs and the perspective earned through lived experience. Ben's personal hope for these songs is that they encourage you to find clarity when life feels bleak, and feel powerful when pain tells you that you are vulnerable and lovable when the world tries to tell you that you are not enough as you are. The album is about the different stages of a relationship: beginnings, tension, grief, sex, love, endings... Nostalgia. It's about how our history and our scars configure to make us who we are in this moment. If a part of us has ever felt broken, we can repair.... Transform ourselves into something more valuable than before. The album was recorded at Apogee Studios in Santa Monica with the band, including James Valentine and Sam Farrar (Maroon 5), who produced the record along with drummer/manager Paul Hamilton.

A little bit on Ben’s musical side of things. He independently released his first EP titled “Songs for you” in 2021 (currently correlating 20 million streams) which has went from strength to strength gaining an ever growing loyal fan base. The year 2023 saw Ben play a run of headline shows across America, Europe, and the UK. Astoundingly, each performance sold out in record time, collectively captivating over 17,000 souls in just 10 electrifying shows.

Recording the new album Ben collaborated with the finest musicians, writers, artists/producers such as Charles Jones of Vulfpeck, Sam Farrar and James Valentine from Maroon 5, Hammy Hamilton best known for his work with Foy Vance and collectively they crafted an album that is raw, full of passion, soulful with an abundance of beautifully crafted story telling and melody.

The album, produced by Sam Farrar (Maroon 5), Paul Hammy Hamilton, and Barnes himself, epitomizes a harmonious trio pulling from enormous experience resulting in a stunning piece of work. There is a very special guest feature on the album, a song titled “One minute More” with the exceptional Monica Martin.

"These 12 tracks take listeners on a beautiful and emotional journey. With his velvety voice, Barnes explores all the stages of a relationship while bringing a level of sentiment that will leave fans smiling with tears streaming down their face.

Long-time fans have heard Barnes use his singing voice in films like Jackie and Ryan, but it wasn’t until 2020 that the actor started to openly share his passion for music. During the pandemic, Barnes began playing covers of songs on his social media and in doing so grew the confidence to explore creating his own music. With Songs For You, he laid his heart bare and garnered a whole new fan base.

Now, he is furthering his talent with his debut album! The title, Where The Light Gets In, comes from a place rooted in hope. Barnes explained in the trailer for the album that it was inspired by, “the perspective earned through lived experience.” When looking at the cover art you can see another muse for the actor seems to be Kintsugi. This is the Japanese art of mending something broken using gold and making the repair a beautiful part of the object’s history. When viewing the trailer for the album you can’t help but feel like Barnes is telling you that even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, you are going to be alright, “the cracks are where the light gets in.”

Ben Barnes
A lifelong music fanatic, Ben began writing songs and working with producers and musicians at the age of just 19, however due to his flourishing acting career, he had never been able to release material in the way he wanted. Forthcoming album Where The Light Gets In was recorded at Apogee Studios in Santa Monica with the band all in a room together, including James Valentine and Sam Farrar (Maroon 5) who also produced the record along with drummer/manager, Paul Hamilton. Inspired by the soul and pop music he loves so much, the album is about the different stages of a relationship; beginnings, tension, sorrow, sex, love, endings, nostalgia. It’s about how our history and our scars configure to make us who we are in this moment. If a part of us has ever felt broken, we can mend...transforming ourselves into something more precious than we were before ....‘the cracks are where the light gets in’.
