Igor Stravinsky had a special interest in pagan Russia and its customs. From 1914 to 1923, he worked on the composition of Les Noces, intended for the Ballets Russes. The "choreographed scenes with music and song" depict a folkloric Russian wedding ritual in four tableaux.

Mathieu Romano, the Ensemble Aedes and Les Siècles present the premiere recording of the 1919 version (completed by Theo Verbey in 2007) for percussion, two Hungarian cymbals, harmonium, pianola and vocal ensemble. In the same instrumentation they interpret Ravel's Bolero, arranged by Robin Melchior: clear, concise, precise.
