Info for Angels In Science Fiction
When Paul Janeway learned he was going to be a father he decided to scribe his thoughts—joy, fear, confusion—as messages to his then-unborn daughter. Those letters became Angels in Science Fiction, the stunning 5th LP from St. Paul & The Broken Bones. Produced by Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price) at the legendary Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis. It finds the band stretching further out, building on the shadowy psychedelia and intricate, experimental R&B of The Alien Coast.
The eight piece ensemble burst into the world with their 2014 debut Half the City, establishing a sound that quickly became a calling card and landing the band a slew of major festivals including Lollapalooza, Coachella and Glastonbury. Critical praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, SPIN and NPR followed, leading to shared stages with some of the world’s biggest artists Elton John and The Rolling Stones among them and launching an impressive run of headlining tours behind what Esquire touted as a "potent live show that knocks audiences on their ass."

St. Paul & The Broken Bones
The Birmingham, AL-based 8-piece shared a new visual with the announcement and plan to release a new album in 2022.
St. Paul & The Broken Bones reached tremendous heights with their three previous full-length albums, each of which debuted in the Billboard 200. They were the first musical guest to perform on Stephen Colbert’s iteration of The Late Show, their legendary NPR Tiny Desk Concert has over 7 million views, and they’ve appeared on multiple additional TV programs ranging from Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Night with Seth Meyers to Austin City Limits and CBS This Morning – Saturday.
One of the great live bands to emerge in the past few years, St. Paul & The Broken Bones have converted new fans from the first down beat on several tours across the globe. And while they quickly rose to fame with the “raw, dizzying soul” (Esquire) captured on their 2014 debut Half The City and 2016’s Sea Of Noise, they continued to grow. Their 2018 album, Young Sick Camelia, found them working with Kendrick Lamar/Alicia Keys collaborator Jack Splash and drawing inspiration from Radiohead as much as Stax. By signing with ATO, the band joins a community of artists that includes Black Pumas, Brittany Howard, My Morning Jacket, Chicano Batman, Emily King, Nick Hakim, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard among others.
St. Paul & The Broken Bones is led by Paul Janeway on vocals and features Jesse Phillips (bass), Browan Lollar (guitar), Kevin Leon (drums), Al Gamble (keyboards), Allen Branstetter (trumpet), Chad Fisher (trombone), and Amari Ansari (saxophone).
“We are very excited for this next chapter in the band’s journey. ATO has been a perfect fit for where the band is going and wants to be. We are so grateful for the opportunity to join the ATO family.” – Paul Janeway, St. Paul & The Broken Bones
St. Paul & The Broken Bones are currently on tour with US dates extending through October. They will tour the UK and Europe in February with more dates to be announced soon.
