Info for Light
The Sonus Quintett is Germany's first reed quintet, consisting of clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon. This unusual combination of woodwind instruments allows for imaginative and airy sounds beautifully showcased on the ensemble's GENUIN debut album. The program includes the quintet’s own transcriptions and the original composition "Refraction" by David Biedenbinder from 2015. The album title "Light" is reflected in various ways in the works: Gershwin's "An American in Paris," Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," and Grieg's famous "Air" from the "Holberg" Suite.
Sonus Quintett
The Sonus Quintett
is Germany’s first “reed quintet”, bringing together the five woodwind instruments: clarinet (Linda Gulyas), bass clarinet (Viviana Rieke), saxophone (Lena Iris Brendel), oboe (Eloi Enrique Hernández), and bassoon (Annika Baum). “Sonus” (Latin for “sound”) signifies their mission to create a completely innovative and homogeneous chamber music sound.
Since its founding in 2021, this Stuttgart-based ensemble has taken the stage by storm, earning an impressive array of accolades. These include the first prize at the Tiziano Rossetti International Music Competition, the second prize at the Carl Wendling Competition, and the Silver Award at the Amadeus International Music Awards.
As scholarship recipients of Jeunesses Musicales Germany and participants in the Studio Chamber Music program at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, the ensemble regularly draws inspiration from esteemed professors such as Ulrich Hermann, Norbert Kaiser, Péter Nagy, and Gregor Sigl. In addition to their exceptional musical work, the musicians strongly emphasize crafting and conceptualizing their programs. Thus, the quintet consistently guides its audience through central themes in a diverse musical manner.
