Info for Songbook
“As colourful as the title on the cover is the music on the album. With this production, Hans-Günther Kölz on the accordion and Wolfgang Ruß on the bass and on the guitar realise a long cherished dream.
Also involved is Matthias Anton, who impress with his versatile and versed saxophone play in every style, and Achim Schweikert, a solid and sensitive acting drummer.
The quartet from Trossingen already played in many different formations together. With Frank Wellert, leading trumpet player in the HR-Big Band, and his velvety sound on the flugelhorn, the cast is rounded.
From a tender Bossa Nova, like the first song Sonho (“dream” in Portuguese) by Frank Wellert, to the powerful Round Trip written by Matthias Anton, from swing classics like Ellington's In a Mellow Tone to groovy sounds, this production provides a large spectrum of what is called “Jazz”. No matter in witch cast, if duo play or as a quintet, thanks to the bow of suspense, there is not a single moment of boredom in these 53 minutes – absolutely worth listening to.”
