Jamal Aliyev, cello

Jamal Aliyev
is rapidly becoming one of the most sought-after cellists of his generation. In 2017 he made his solo debut at the BBC Proms with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall performing for the celebrated film music composer John Williams’ 85th Birthday. In the same year he won the ‘Arts Club – Sir Karl Jenkins Music Award’ and released his debut CD Russian Masters with pianist Anna Fedorova for Champs Hill Records to critical acclaim.

Jamal has performed widely internationally, highlights including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (broadcast by Radio 3), the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Turkey, CBSO at the Royal Albert Hall, Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra in Venezuela and Tomsk Philharmonia at the Trans-Siberian Festival. In 2021 he was featured as one of Classic FM’s ‘30 of the most brilliant young classical musicians playing today’.

This season Jamal Aliyev debuts in Hong Kong, Australia and the USA, records albums with celebrated Turkish pianist and composer Fazil Say and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Howard Griffiths. Jamal Aliyev gave the Turkey premiere of Fazil Say’s cello concerto “Shahmaran” at the Volkswagen Arena – Istanbul in December and will be touring with him as a duo in 2022.

Hugely popular in Turkey, he returns to give recitals with Fazil Say, and to perform concertos by Haydn and Shostakovich with the Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, CSO, Eskisehir and Mersin Symphony Orchestras. He greatly values the opportunity to collaborate with local musicians, promoting this work through the online release of traditional folk and classical music performances.

On the concert platform Jamal has given recitals and taken part in chamber music at venues including Wigmore Hall (London), Royal Albert Hall (London), Atheneum (Bucharest), Forbidden City Concert Hall (Beijing), Presidential Concert Hall (Ankara), Rachmaninov Hall (Moscow), Arts Parliament House (Singapore) and the Merkin Concert Hall (New York). Solo appearances include the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, BBC Concert and Scottish Symphony, CBSO, Tomsk Philharmonic in Siberia, Simon Bolivar Symphony in Venezuela, the Kennemer Jeugd Orkest in Holland and Istanbul, Bilkent and Presidential Symphony Orchestras in Turkey among many others.

Jamal has performed at festivals such as; Menuhin in Switzerland, Kronberg in Germany, Enescu in Romania, IKSV and Gumusluk in Turkey, Trans-Siberian in Siberia, St Magnus in Scotland, Fishguard in Wales and Ulverston in England.

He continues his education at the Guildhall School of Music for his artist diploma and at the Hochschule Für Musik Köln for his doctorate simultaneously with the contributions of ÇEV Sanat. He continues to plan his projects and career together with Berrin Yoleri.
