Info for Partial Lunar Eclipse

So young - so good - So Lieb Quartet The essence of the ‘So Lieb Quartet’ lies in their interplay, their connection - a connection between musicians, between instruments, between sounds, rhythms, improvisation, composition and motifs. This Swiss jazz quartet weaves a sonic fabric that is sometimes dense and strong, then again loose, fine, taut, airy, wobbly, stable and calm. They create a stream of concentration, pausing, persevering and rushing together. With their album ‘Partial Lunar Eclipse’, the So Lieb Quartet unveils unique, polytonal patterns and genuine musical conversations. These elements blend perfectly, creating an intriguing yet accessible atmosphere that reflects their thoughts on increasingly hot summers and the political and social challenges we face due to climate change. The So Lieb Quartet invites listeners to embark on a sonic journey through ‘Partial Lunar Eclipse’, where their complex interplay and emotional compositions provide a reflective and immersive experience.

So Lieb Quartet
The new formation with Sonja Ott (trumpet, composition), Philipp Leibundgut (drums, composition), François Lana (piano) and Jules Martinez (double bass) was formed as part of the Zoo Studio Session in Bern. The four virtuoso, versatile musicians bring their unique musical voices into a contemporary context. The result is sensitive, transparent, rhythmic and melodious music in which composition and improvisation go hand in hand.
