After studying jazz at conservatories for 15 years, then evolving alongside Pierrick Pédron and Thomas Bramerie in particular, Élie Martin-Charrière wanted to ‘get rid’ of a lot of the teaching so he could think and play the music that made him dream, the music that doesn't exist. For his new album, it all started with the title of a song he wrote in 2016, ‘Tell the “Era P's” Dream’, which Elie dedicated to his spiritual and musical guide Dré Pallemaerts, simply using an anagram of his former teacher's name. From this came the image of ‘Era #P’, the area of all Potentials, of the Possible, for Peace between the Peoples living on our Planet. This world of Possibilities is one where music has no limits other than those created by the artist himself, it exists, it lives. A world where there is no longer any style, but simply a way of creating, a purpose that is the communion between all in the sound, the same vibration that carries and carries away. At times more in the airy style of Wayne Shorter, the very concrete writing of Ambrose Akinmusire, the more mysterious of Weather Report or the more telluric of Justin Brown, the universe of ‘Era #P’ is inspiring and inspired, refreshing because risk-taking is so central to the purpose of this music.

Elie Martin-Charrière
grew up surrounded by music, thanks to his parents, Michel Martin, a jazz double bass player, and Sophie Charrière, a pianist and accompanist. From an early age, his father was his first music teacher, introducing him to the world of jazz and the art of improvisation.
Elie's formal musical education began at the CRR in Chalon-sur-Saône, where he studied for five years. This foundation paved the way for his admission to the prestigious Jazz & Improvised Music department at the CNSM de Paris in 2013.
At the CNSM in Paris, Elie met Dre Pallemaerts, a renowned drum teacher whose influence has been instrumental in Elie's musical and personal growth.
While at the CNSM, Elie co-founded the group H! with Carl-Henri Morisset and Etienne Renard. This collaboration marked the beginning of Elie's professional career in jazz. In June 2017, Elie graduated with honours from the CNSM de Paris, earning his Master's degree in Jazz and Improvised Music.
Elie joined the ‘Unknown’ quartet, led by violist Pierrick Pédron. His talents soon led him to form part of a trio with double bassist Thomas Bramerie, contributing to the album ‘Side Stories’. Over the years, Elie has played with many notable musicians, including Pierre de Bethmann, Riccardo Del Fra, Louis Winsberg, Rosario Giuliani, Stéphane Belmondo, Jacky Terrasson, Eric Legnini, and Paul Lay.
Elie also explores new musical frontiers with an experimental trio featuring Roman Maresz on keyboards and Sol Léna-Schroll on saxophone. This group is dedicated to pushing back the boundaries of jazz and discovering new sounds.
Elie's projects are a testament to his versatility and innovative spirit. He leads a quintet with Pierre-Marie Lapprand on saxophone, Martin Ferreyros on guitar, Yessaï Karapetian, and Marc Karapetian.
He also continues to perform with the H! quartet, which includes Carl-Henri Morisset, Bastien Weeger on saxophone, and Etienne Renard on double bass. Influenced by modern jazz albums such as Logan Richardson's ‘Blues People’, Ambrose Akinmusire's ‘Origami Harvest’ and Gilad Heksleman's ‘Ask For Chaos’, Elie's trio takes a contemporary and inventive approach to jazz.
Elie also leads the sextet ‘Inesis’, with Melvin Marquez on saxophone, Sol Léna-Schroll on soprano saxophone, Carl-Henri Morisset on piano, Roman Maresz on Rhodes, and Etienne Renard on double bass. This ensemble highlights Elie's ability to combine technical mastery with rhythmic complexity and expressive depth.
