Karolína Janů
completed her Master´s University Degree at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in The Czech Republic. At the Academy of Performing Arts, Karolína was a student of Professor Jana Jonášová. She continued her studies in the Classical Music Academy at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam under the tutelage of Professor Roberta Alexander.
In 2009 she participated in Masterclasses with Professor KS Eva Marton at the “Internationale Sommerakademie Prag-Wien-Budapest”. Further she has polished her Singing with Alexander Oliver, Marina Rebeka, Lynne Dawson and Nancy Henninger.
In 2008 she won the second prize in the “Dušek Youth Singing Competition” of the Czech Mozart Society. She has also received a Scholarship by the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation in Prague for presentation of the work of Bohuslav Martinů in the Netherlands.
Her professional concert performances consist of Engagements with Orchestras like The Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, The Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice, The West-Bohemian Symphony Orchestra and The Prague Chamber Orchestra. Karolina is a well-known interpreter of Old Music and cooperates with Ensembles Collegium 1704, Ensemble Inégal, Barocco Sempre Giovane and The Czech Ensemble Baroque.
Karolina also regularly performs at Music Festivals in the Czech Republic, such as the International Music Festival Czech Touches of Music or The Dvořák Music Festival.
In the frame of long-term cooperation with the Dutch conductor Dirkjan Horringa and the ensemble La Pellegrina Karolina Janů has performed for example the soprano solo in Antonín Dvořák´s cantata „The Spectre's Bride“ or the soprano solo part in Joseph Haydn´s oratorio „The Creation“ both in the Czech Republic as well as in the Netherlands.
Her Repertoire includes the following Opera Roles: Bastienne (Bastien und Bastienne) that she performs in the project „Bastien and company“ in cooperation with Jaromír Nohavica, Ilia (Idomeneo), La Musica a Euridice (L'Orfeo), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), as well as a vast Repertoire of Spiritual Music and Romantic Songs.
In the season 2018/19 Karolina Janů performed the roles of La Musica and Euridice in Claudio Monteverdi´s opera „Orfeo” in Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Pilsen and as well at the prestigious opera festival Musica Bayreuth. In the 2020/21 season, she performed at the same theater in the roles of Virtú and Drusilla in Claudio Monteverdi's opera "L'incoronazione di Poppea".
