Biographie Tytingvåg Ensemble
Randi Tytingvåg is a Norwegian singer and songwriter with roots in the jazz genre. She is known for her great, characteristic voice and for her way of communicating with the audience. Her compositions and lyrics have integrity and underline her talent for storytelling. When Carina Prange from Jazzzeitung asked what inspired her she answered: “There’s a story behind every one of my songs. Something that happened to me, or to some one that I know. Or something that I’ve heard or read about. It has to be something that really gets to me.. I call it the “emotional trigger point” – something that makes me want to take action. Then I try to make something personal out of it, without getting private...a very important difference!”The compositions are a crossover between the different genres she herself has been influenced by; jazz, the singer/songwriter tradition, rock, cabaret, folk and chamber music. Her music has a deep grounding – she is aware of her roots and heavily influenced by the people and nature surrounding her. Her voice carries a dualistic mix; strong and fragile at the same time. She finished her jazz studies in London in 2001. She made her debut as a jazz singer the same year at the Maijazz festival. In 2004 she was announced to be ”The artist of the year” in her hometown Stavanger. Her debut album ”Heavenly Attack” and the EP ”Beyond Surface” were released soon after this. In 2006 she released the album ”Let Go”. In the same year Randi also made her debut as an actress at Rogaland Teater in the music drama ”Skyfri himmel”, by Bjørn Eidsvåg and Olaug Nilssen. In 2009 she released her third album, RED, on the German label Ozella Music. The reviews have been outstanding; Tytingvåg is a critically acclaimed singer and songwriter who has managed to create her own unique sound:”Somewhere between Tom Waits, Astor Piazolla and Cole Porter, the thirty-one-year-old musician creates a tremendous wealth of melodies and harmonies that could easily fill several concept albums.” Mane Stelzer, MELODIVA CD Tipp November 2009
