In der Musik der in London geborenen Saxophonistin, Komponistin und Bandleaderin spiegelt sich nicht nur die Verwurzelung im Jazz, sondern es schimmern auch weitere Einflüsse von Dub, R&B, Klassik und mehr durch. Das Album atmet Freiheit und Grenzenlosigkeit, gerade in den instrumentalen Tracks. Hier findet sich immer wieder der Geist des Fusion-Jazz ebenso wie orchestrale Elemente, die dem Ganzen zusätzliche Größe verleiehen. Als Gesangsgäste sind u.a. Georgia Anne Muldrow, Zara Macfarlane und Ritchie zu hören. Nubya´s Saxofon bestimmt die Szenerie nicht immer, aber doch wesentlich die Besetzungen sind unterschiedlich, auffällig ist das hervorragende Schlagzeugspiel von Sam Jones und der ebenso virtuose Bass von Daniel Casimir sowie das Klavier von Joe Armon, die sowas wie das engste Bandteam sind, das aber noch um zahlreiche Musiker_innen erweitert wurde.

Nubya Garcia
Born and raised in North London, Nubya Garcia began playing saxophone at the age of 10. She studied under pianist Nikki Yeoh at Camden Music, before joining Gary Crosby’s Tomorrow’s Warriors in her late teens, and completing her training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music. In 2018, Garcia won the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year Award and the Sky Arts Breakthrough Act of the Year Award. A year later, she received Jazz FM UK Jazz Act of the Year Award. An incredible live performer, she’s toured extensively on her own, as well as with the contemporary septet, Nerija, playing venues and festivals around the world. When she’s not on the road, Garcia can be heard on NTS Radio, where she hosts one of the station’s top radio shows.
