Info for Still. There's hope + Live

Victor Solf is best known for his work with The Popopopops and HER, which he founded with his eternal and late friend Simon Carpentier. Unfortunately, the latter passed away from cancer in the summer of 2017 in the middle of recording what will be HER's one and only album. Nevertheless, our host decided to start a new musical chapter by going solo for good with his first record entitled Still. There's Hope.

Starting again from scratch, such is Victor Solf's leitmotiv who doesn't abandon the neo-soul colours of his previous project. The man has finished mourning his previous solo releases and plunges heart and soul into a new adventure with his first tracks, "I Don't Fit" and "How Did We? Conveying hip-hop beats with pure electro sounds and a hint of seductive groove, the ex-HER seems to be blossoming in this new journey with tracks full of humanism such as "Fight For Love" and "Comet", energetic tracks that feed our soul.

Still. There's Hope is, as its name suggests, an album of hope. This doesn't prevent Victor Solf from moving us with his skin-deep but strong character interpretation on tracks led by the piano with high quality arrangements, notably on "Traffic Lights" and "Drop The Ego" where the electric guitar and the saxophone go out of style. And between two electro-neo-soul pearls, "Utopia" which gradually rises in power and "Trouble Behind" which is a luminous conclusion, there are two sublime piano-driven ballads, "Something Else" and "New Normal" which will make us cry for its beauty. And this is where the magic of Victor Solf comes into play.

After facing the dark period of mourning and chasing adversity, Still. There's Hope reminds us that behind every constant battle in life there is still hope and happiness and it's a beautiful lesson in humanism that we have here.

Victor Solf
Singer and pianist of the group HER, Victor continues his journey, since the disappearance of Simon Carpentier, the other half of the duo and his best friend.

His work is both icy and carnal, of a mysterious beauty, faithful to the purity, to “less is more”, but also soul and solar.

One finds there melancholy by the sweetness of his pianos à la Satie, Gonzales, Richter or Émile Mosseri. But his great passion for soul and blues bring iconic and contemporary influences, from Sam Cook to Franck Ocean.

And his curiosity, his talents as a producer brings him closer to the colors of Nils Frahm, Thom Yorke or Jon Hopkins.

I like the bright side of things. I like very strong contrasts. I try to assert that I am not like everyone else. Since my earliest childhood, cinema has always had a very important place in my life. From the relationship forged with my father around the first episodes of Star Wars to the nights of pretending I wasn’t scared watching horror movies much too young with my friends. Later while I was already a professional musician, I became obsessed with series. I used to take breaks during intense writing sessions to watch episodes of Breaking Bad or The Leftovers, which has always inspired me enormously.

While my music as a solo artist is pop and soul, I also spend a lot of time composing very different styles of music keeping in mind the latest scenes from movies that stood out to me. The last soundtrack that shocked me was "Minari" by Emile Mosseri.

We believe very much in the potential of Victor’s talent for film and television compositions. Through his melodies, the acuity of his intelligence in analyzing images, his pianos, and his talent as a producer.
