Info for Ethnocentric
A fascinating album, in which Vincent Mondy presents a unique (and unlikely) blend of contemporary and free jazz, improvised music, indie rock, bal musette and FM-Radio sweetness. Somehow, it works! The album includes new versions of two Simon Fell compositions from the 1980s, last heard on the 'Two Steps To Easier Breathing' album
Vincent Mondy demonstrated a true musical highlight. With great technical expertise and a new style, he repeatedly introduces new elements in his music. Sometimes even going to disrupt or destabilize, a perfectly completed, both the composition and in terms of instrumental playing. Which is very rare in a musician. Richard and Thibaut are two young musicians with creativity both exciting and challenging, from whom I learned a lot.
Finally my presence in his quartet also gave me the opportunity to shed new light on some of my compositions that I wrote for my own jazz ensembles in the 80s. I did not have them played for over 20 years, until the VM4 raise it beautifully. Vincent is a musician who prefers to play music rather than talking about playing music, which is a huge benefit for 'Yorkshireman' Expatriate! (Simon Fell)
