Die belgische Koloratursopranistin Marie Cabel (1827 – 1885) errang im Alter von 26 Jahren mit der Uraufführung von Adolphe Adams Opéra-comique „Le Bijou perdu“ einen phänomenalen Triumph in Paris. Nach dem großen Erfolg des Albums „Offenbach Colorature“ (ALPHA437) tritt Jodie Devos in die Fußstapfen ihrer Kollegin und Landsmännin Cabel, die im weiteren Verlauf ihrer Karriere mit der dramatischere Rolle in Halévys „Jaguarita l'Indienne“ mit 124 Aufführungen in nur wenigen Monaten erneut einen Volltreffer landete. Cabel feierte einen Erfolg nach dem anderen: in Aubers “Manon Lescaut“ und „La Part du diable“, in Meyerbeers „L'Étoile du Nord“ und „Le Pardon de Ploërmel“, in Victor Massés „Galathée“ sowie in „Le Songe d'une nuit d'été“ von Ambroise Thomas, der ihr 1866 die größte Rolle ihrer Karriere gab: die Philine in „Mignon“, nach Goethe. In Zusammenarbeit mit den Musikwissenschaftlern des Palazzetto Bru Zane, die all diese zu Unrecht vergessenen Raritäten wiederentdeckt und editiert haben, und Pierre Bleuse, der die Brüsseler Philharmoniker und den Flämischen Rundfunkchor dirigiert, erweist Jodie Devos diesem Star des 19. Jahrhunderts, dessen Kühnheit und Sinn für Schalkhaftigkeit sie zweifellos teilt, nun die Ehre!

Jodie Devos
After studying with Benoît Giaux and Élise Gäbele in Namur, Jodie Devos received a Master of Art degree in 2013 at the Royal Academy of Music of London in Lillian Watson’s class. She also attended master classes with H. Deutsch, J. Streets, D. Denize, C. Eda- Pierre or M. Minkowski. She is generously supported by Asbl Do Musica and the Thirionet funds.

In 2014, she was awarded the second prize and the audience prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition. She is also the prizewinner of several national competitions, such as the Bell’Arte competition, the Thirionet Funds, the Nouveaux Talents de l’Art lyrique and the Jacques Dôme Prize. She was nominated Artiste Jeune Talent for the year 2015 by the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA).

Throughout her young career, she has already appeared under the direction of esteemed conductors such as Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, Christian Arming, Paolo Arrivabeni, Roland Boer, Laurent Campellone, Laurence Equilbey, Mikko Franck, Emmanuelle Haïm, Philippe Jordan, Dmitri Jurowski, Louis Langrée, Enrique Mazzola, Marc Minkowski, François-Xavier Roth, Christophe Rousset, Guy van Waas… and in productions designed by David Bobée, Romeo Castellucci, David Lescot, Denis Podalydès, Emilio Sagi, Bob Wilson, Christian Lacroix…

Jodie Devos has given numerous concerts and recitals all over the world, in countries like Belgium (Gent, Antwerpen, Brussels), France (Paris), Germany (Düsseldorf), Italy (Venice), the Netherlands (Maastricht), India (Mumbay), Canada (Québec), Poland (Katowice), the United States (New-York) and also on tour in Brasil. She also performs in several festivals (Estivales en Médoc, Juillet Musical de Saint-Hubert, Mostly Mozart, Saint-Riquier, Stavelot, Violon sur le sable).

In 2014, she joined the Opéra Comique Academy, in Paris, where she could be heard in La Chauve-souris (Ida and then Adèle) and Les Mousquetaires au couvent. She also sang at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina), Orphée aux Enfers (Eurydice) and Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), at the Opéra of Montpellier in L’Enfant et les sortilèges (le Feu, le Rossignol and la Princesse), L’Hirondelle inattendue by Laks as well as in Geneviève de Brabant by Offenbach.

More recently, she made her debuts in Lakmé (title role) in Tours, she has also sung Pelléas et Mélisande (Yniold), Les Indes Galantes (Amour and Zaïre) and Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Olympia) at the Paris National Opera, Die Zauberflöte(Königin der Nacht) in Caen, Dijon, Limoges and in concert version at the Philharmonie de Paris with Les Talens Lyriques conducted by Christophe Rousset, but also at La Monnaie in Brussels and the Paris National Opera, Le Timbre d’argent(Rosa) by Saint-Saëns and La Nonne sanglante (Arthur) by Gounod at the Opéra Comique, Le Comte Ory (Comtesse Adèle) in Liège, Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Blondchen) in Monte-Carlo, Guillaume Tell (Jemmy) at the Chorégies d’Orange, Dialogues des Carmélites (Soeur Constance) in Toulouse, La Fille du régiment (Marie), Rigoletto (Gilda) and Mignon (Philine) in Liège, La Vie Parisienne (Gabrielle) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and in Tours and Hamlet (Ophélie) au Festival de Radio France.

In concert, she sang la Chauve-souris, la Chouette, une Pastourelle with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and le Feu, le Rossignol and la Princesse with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo in L’Enfant et les sortilèges, Monsieur Beaucaire by Messager with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Pygmalion by Rameau conducted by Christophe Rousset in Potsdam, opera arias by Charles Gounod with the Orchestre National de France, Le Chalet by Adam in Toulon, Der Schauspieldirektor (Frau Herz) at the Tonhalle Zürich, Mahler 4th Symphony and Mozart Requiem with the Orchestre national de Belgique, Ein Sommernachtstraum by Mendelssohn with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Orphée et Eurydice with Les Talens Lyriques at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Mozart Requiem in Brussels and in New York for the Mostly Mozart Festival, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the Morphing Chamber Orchestra and Mozart C Minor Mass with the Belgian National Orchestra, L’Elisir d’amore (Adina) and Pergolesi Stabat mater at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Zoroastre (Amélite) on tour with Les Ambassadeurs, Britten’s Les Illuminations and Poulenc’s Stabat Mater with the Orchestre National de Lille in Lille and at the Festival de Saint-Denis and A Sea Symphony by Vaughan Williams with the Orchestre National de France at the Festival de Radio France. She also gave some recitals in Padova, at the Théâtre Impérial in Compiègne, at the Salle Gaveau, at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, at the Flâneries musicales de Reims, at the Festivals de Wallonie…

Her first solo CD Offenbach Colorature (Alpha Classics) has been unanimously acclaimed by critics and rewarded with a Diapason d’or and a Diamant de platine Opéra Magazine. Her following recording And love said is dedicated to English songs. Recently she recorded Pergolesi’s Stabat mater with Le Concert de la loge.

Among her future projects, let us mention Lakmé, Hamlet and Pelléas et Mélisande at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, On purge bébé, a new piece by Philippe Boesmans in Brussels, Lyon, Orphée aux enfers at the Taormina Festival Un Ballo in maschera in Barcelona, Lucie de Lammermoor at the Opéra de Tours and at the Opéra de Québec, Fantasio at the Opéra Comique, Dialogues des Carmélites and L’Olimpiade at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and L’Enfant et les sortilèges in Monte Carlo.

In concert, she will perform, La Fille du régiment (Marie) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with the Orchestre national de Lille, Carmina Burana with the Münchner Philhamoniker and the Orchestre National de Lyon.
