June Cavlan is an award-winning vocalist, arranger, and teacher based in New York. June is a rising star in New York’s lot of straight-ahead jazz singers. Her unique and charismatic interpretations of works from the Great American Songbook and rich vocal quality make June a dynamic singer. She has made big strides in her career since moving to Manhattan in 2023.

She is thrilled to be releasing her debut album, “A Portrait of June” this year with the New York label, La Reserve Records. She has had the opportunity to collaborate with revered New York musicians like Emmet Cohen, Bryan Carter, Benny Benack III, and more. June is also a member of the rising vocal trio, The Sunhouse Singers.

Growing up surrounded by music, June enjoyed a wide variety of performance experiences ranging from classical voice, classical piano and french horn to jazz vocal ensembles, musical theater and more, but it was in high school that she fell in love with the sounds of jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Horn and chose to dedicate herself to this artistic pursuit.

Upon graduation from high school in 2019, she found that her efforts had earned her a full scholarship to attend the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music to pursue a degree in Jazz vocal performance. It was here that her artistry grew immensely.

Not long after starting at Frost, June began to accrue awards of her own: in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 she won prestigious Downbeat magazine awards for her group singing and was a 2019 Youngarts winner as a solo vocalist. In 2022, June was honored to receive the Downbeat Magazine Award for Best Undergraduate Jazz Vocalist. In 2023, her success at the University of Miami was rewarded with a generous scholarship offer from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She is currently pursuing her masters degree while being a full time teacher and performer.

Whether she is singing with The Sunhouse Singers or leading a band, June loves arranging her favorite music in new ways and telling stories through songs. With her debut album coming out in 2024, the future appears to be very bright indeed for this rising young star on the scene.
