Marija Jankova Noller, piano

Marija Jankova Noller
grew up in Bulgaria, studied piano and chamber music at the Conservatory in Sofia (concert examination) and taught at the teacher training college in her home city of Plovdiv. She was awarded prizes at a number of international competitions.

In 1980 she came to Hamburg, received a post at the Staatliche Jugendmusikschule (for the education of outstandingly talented students) and began an intensive career giving concerts in Germany and abroad. The Akademie der Künste Berlin awarded her a scholarship to Italy.

She has for many years been active in a leading organisational role in Gedok (Gemeinschaft deutsch-österreichischer Künstlerinnen) – the Association of German and Austrian Women Artists. She is a sought-after member of the jury in various music competitions.

As a pianist she gives solo recitals as well as taking part in chamber music performances, presenting to audiences programmes organised around a common theme and with commentaries (e.g. “Complementary”, “Metamorphoses: Beckett meets Schubert”, “Still Life” etc.).
