Info for J.S. Bach: Keyboard Concertos

Gile Bae
was born in 1994 in Capelle aan den Ijssel, Netherlands. She made her debut in South Korea as a soloist with a concert for piano and orchestra in Haydn's C Major when she was just five years old and at the age of six she enrolled at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. She won the first Dutch awards "International Steinway & Sons Piano Competition" in 2000, and was later chosen to represent Holland at the "International Steinway & Sons Festival" performing at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. In 2017 she recorded the Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach, and shortly afterwards became a Bösendorfer Artist. In season 2020-21 she was invited by Sir Andràs Schiff to participate in his Building Bridges series.

Archi di Santa Cecilia
Founded in 1908, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia was the first orchestra in Italy to focus exclusively on symphonic music. Since Sir Antonio Pappano took over as Musical Director in 2005, the orchestra has greatly gained in prestige, obtaining widespread international recognition.

The Archi di Santa Cecilia and Luigi Piovano have been working together since 2013, when their first concert featuring music by Schubert in Rome was described as a «clamorous success» by Luigi Bellingardi in the Corriere della Sera newspaper. From the following year, their concert schedule expanded to include numerous eminent concert venues throughout Italy as well as a busy recording program. Devoted to Schubert, their first CD met with widespread acclaim in the international press and was followed by the Serenades of Dvořák and Tchaikovsky, by “Cinema for Strings” (2017) with music by Rota, Morricone and Piovani, and by a Mozart recording (2020).

Luigi Piovano
received his diploma at the age of 17 with Radu Aldulescu and has appeared in chamber music concerts with artists such as Sawallisch, Chung, Pollini, Lonquich, Sitkovetsky, Kavakos and the Labèque sisters.

He has played as a soloist under the direction of Chung, Nagano and Pletnev. Since 2007 he has been playing regularly in a duo with Antonio Pappano.

For more than 20 years he has been first cello with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Active also as a conductor, from 2012 he has been musical director of the Magna Grecia Orchestra and, since 2013, at the head of the Archi di Santa Cecilia.
