“Big Colors” heißt das 18. Studioalbum von Ryan Adams und stellt einen markanten Richtungswechsel gegenüber dem letzten Album “Wednesdays” dar. Es ist eine beschwingte Platte mit viel Schlagzeug, Gitarren und Synthesizer, die den Vibe der 1980er Jahre spektakulär einfängt und zusammen mit Don Was und Beatriz Artola produziert wurde. Der 7-fach für den Grammy nominierte Ryan Adams, bekannt als einer der talentiertesten Songwriter des Rocks, hat Millionen von Platten verkauft und Alben für einige der einflussreichsten Künstler der Musikbranche produziert.
Dieses Album hat es in sich. Und das in jeder Hinsicht. Die Veröffentlichung hatte sich ja ursprünglich verzögert wegen diverser Missbrauchsvorwürfen gegen ihn. Mehrere Frauen, darunter Künstlerinnen wie Phoebe Bridgers und Adams Ex-Frau Mandy Moore erhoben die Vorwürfe 2019 in der New York Times. Mittlerweile hat das FBI die Ermittlungen eingestellt. Nun zum künstlerischen Output. Da hält man ein gewichtiges Werk in Händen. Eine schwarze, angriffslustige Katze ziert das Cover. Der Hintergrund ist signalrot. Auch das Vinyl der Schallplatte ist leuchtend Rot. Als Dreingabe gibt es eine 7-Inch-Vinyl-Single in schwarzem Vinyl mit zwei exklusiven Bonus Tracks. Das Ganze befindet sich in einem stabilen Karton-Klappcover. Das Album startet mit dem Titeltrack. Eine intensive, manchmal zart-zerbrechliche, gleichzeitig ausdruckstarke Stimme zieht den Hörer in ihren Bann. Eine prägnante E-Gitarre begleitet den Protagonisten auf seinen melodiösen Ausflügen. Der Reichtum an einfühlsamen Melodielinien ist erstaunlich. Auch die Dynamik der Aufnahmen ist künstlerisch und klanglich auf sehr hohem kreativen Niveau.

Ryan’s profound contributions to music have taken many different forms. From his songwriting, to his producing, to fronting the rock/alternative country band Whiskeytown, and forming, “Ryan Adams & The Cardinals,” his ability to connect with audiences across a variety of different mediums is undeniable. Ryan’s passion for writing continues, and he is currently working on his first novel. His music has spanned multiple musical genres, and has been incorporated in film and television specials such as Judd Apatow’s top grossing production Bridesmaids, This is 40, popular HBO TV series’ True Blood and Felicity, and his song, ‘Stay Alive’ appeared in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, starring Ben Stiller.
In November 2014, Ryan performed a two-night engagement at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall, which turned into a critically acclaimed live album on PAX-AM records, a label specifically for his music releases.
Ryan is widely known for his powerful shows performed all over the world and regarded for his prolific songwriting. He has been praised by many music icons including Noel Gallagher, Taylor Swift and the legend Elton John, who described him as the “fabulous one.” Adams currently resides in Los Angeles, California with his five cats, typewriter, and coffee machine.
